Quantum field theory (QFT) is the mathematical framework employed in the description of the description of the fundamental interactions between elementary particles. It is very powerful and has achieved tremendous success in the past. QFT has also been applied to condensed matter physics and problems in statistical mechanics and mathematics with spectacular results. In the last 25 years, the interactions between particle physics, condensed matter physics and statistical mechanics thought the unifying framework of QFT are among the greatest achievements in theoretical physics. Still, we do not yet have a perfect understanding of all the delicate aspects of QFT. One of the goals of my research activities has been to push further the boundary of QFT. I would like to elucidate more clearly the subtle and complex structure of QFT. I am also interested in the wide ranging applications of QFT. Specifically, my research in recent years has been centered around 2 and 3 dimensional QFT where there are many very interesting features not present in 4 dimensional theories.
